This very special project was carried out on a beautiful country property in Great Ayton, where ERW Joinery were tasked with fitting co-ordinated timber windows and doors throughout. The main part of the project consisted of manufacturing and installing 8 hardwood High Performance Vertical Sliding Sash Windows with Spiral Balances and 4 Storm Proof Casement Windows all finished in a bespoke Dark Green colour. All units were double glazed to BSEN1279 part 3 Standard, and finished with chrome monkey tail handles. Stainless steel friction stay hinges were used on all outward opening apertures.
ERW also supplied and installed three doors to the property – the external kitchen door was chosen from our Kensington range and finished externally in Dark Green and internally in White, with the external frame finished in Pea Green. The front and rear Entrance Doors were from our York 2 range and finished to match the kitchen door. The co-ordinated front door was fitted into a pea green (external) Pilaster frame and all doors finished with chrome handles and high security multi-point locking systems. High performance draught seals, tested and approved to BS6375 part 1, were used throughout.
John Brudnell, ERW’s Installation Team Leader comments: “We love working on projects like these on such beautiful homes. By upgrading doors and windows, we can create a unique home for the owner, whilst maintaining the traditional style of the property and surrounding village. It’s thanks to our mix of new manufacture and refurb capabilities that we can do this. We love adding extra attention to detail by using finishing touches from our heritage range, such as the monkey tail handles used in this project.”
Great Ayton was the boyhood home of Captain James Cook where attended the Postgate School, now converted into the Captain Cook School room Museum. Within the grounds of the house itself lies a former church. Built in 1769, this Grade II listed building adds to the historical significance of this property making our task of adding new life to the building whilst maintaining the period features even more vital.
