This was a very complex project in a school were the planners wanted to retain the original character of the building.
This Primary school was in need of renovation. The single glazed windows were very inefficient and in a poor state of repair. Windows were difficult to open and close, were not weather proof and the rooms were very cold and expensive to heat. Our brief was to come up with a solution that preserved the character of the building but addressed all the problems with the original window frames. We designed new sashes which contained High Performance double glazed units and had special timber astragals bonded to the glass to maintain the appearance of the historic windows.
The original sashes were removed and the frames were fully renovated and restored. New sashes and our ERW draught sealing system were installed into the restored box frames and new ironmongery fitted to allow the occupants to have full use of the windows. The project involved side hung casment windows to the rear elevation and large outward opening and fixed casements to the side and front elevations. Also there were feature arched windows in the main hall which we redesigned the opening arrangements to meet the needs of the school.
