ERW has pledged its support to the recently launched Made In Britain campaign joining a growing number of manufacturers able to carry the new marque.
The initiative which has enjoyed backing from prominent MPs, debate in Parliament and much national media coverage, came about after research commissioned by British kitchen appliance manufacturer Stoves uncovered widespread confusion amongst consumers about Made In Britain goods. The findings revealed that half of UK consumers are baffled when it comes to buying ‘British’, two thirds want an official seal of approval to show products made in Britain and the majority (52%) think British brands should bring manufacturing back to the UK.
Lawrence Wall, ERW MD comments; “With a heritage dating back to 1979, ERW’s long standing commitment to manufacturing in the North East makes us perfectly placed to join this campaign which showcases British products and skills.
“It’s also great timing as we have our own high profile campaign to celebrate the 100 anniversary of the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge. We’re all proud of the manufacturing heritage and the bridge is the core of our iron and steel industry, blast furnaces and mills. As one supporter of the campaign commented: “Gateshead has The Angel of the North, Geordies have the Tyne Bridge, and Middlesbrough has the transporter. ERW is proud to be part of the region’s manufacturing landscape.”
