Manufacturing and installing windows in Grade 2 listed building

This article was published on August 21, 2012

This grade 2 listed dwelling is in a prominent position in the High Street of Old Eston Village. The challenge was to provide both thermal and acoustic insulation whilst maintaining the historic features and character of this important building.

The dwelling is very close to the High Street and opposite a public house. Noise was a big problem for the residents and the existing single glazed windows offered little insulation from the traffic and pedestrian noise. The property suffered from terrific heat loss from the draughty single glazed frames.

In consultation with the local planning department, ERW designed a Yorkshire sliding window double glazed with 8.8 mm stadip acoustic glass to the outer pane, with a 4 mm warm edge spacer bar, argon filled cavity and 4 mm low E coated inner pane of glass.

The wood windows were factory decorated in Heritage cream finish to replicate the historic colours of the existing frames.
